Skip the repair bill

Whatever shape your car is in, we buy it as-is.

You don’t need to fix it, clean it, or pay a mechanic just to get it out of your driveway.

  1. Dead in the driveway

Won’t start and visible from the street? In Phoenix that can be a code violation. Sell it instead.

  2. Killed by the heat

Dead battery, overheated engine, failed AC, or cracked hoses and belts after another Phoenix summer.

  3. Wrecked or totaled

Collision damage, deployed airbags, or a car waiting at a body shop.

  4. Expired registration

A lapsed registration doesn’t stop a sale. The title is what matters.

  5. Lost title or a loan

Missing title or a lender on it? Our Arizona page shows exactly what ADOT requires.

  6. Inherited or unwanted

A relative’s car or one that has sat under the carport for years. Tell us the situation.

Parked at home

Is a dead car in your driveway a code violation?

It can be. The City of Phoenix says inoperable vehicles must not be visible from beyond the property line. A vehicle counts as inoperable if it isn’t equipped with all the parts required to drive legally and safely on public streets, or if it can’t be driven under its own power.

Covering it doesn’t fix it. The city says car covers, tarps, bamboo, shades and similar materials are not acceptable screening.

It’s one of the city’s “8 Common Blight Violations”, and neighbors can report it through myPHX311, by email to blight@phoenix.gov, or anonymously at 602-534-4444. If the car isn’t going to run again, selling it clears the driveway and puts money in your pocket.

Do the math

If it gets towed as abandoned, versus selling.

These are the City of Phoenix Police Department’s published rules for vehicles it has towed.

If it’s towed as abandonedIf you sell it to JunkStar
You pay all tow and storage charges to get it back$0 towing
Storage of up to $25 per day (state law) or $15 per day (city code)No storage, pickup at your address

Know before you sell

How to tell a real offer from a bait-and-switch.

The biggest worry sellers have is a high quote that shrinks when the tow truck arrives. These are the common tricks and what JunkStar does instead.

What to watch forHow JunkStar works
A high quote that drops at pickupYou get one firm written offer upfront. It stays firm at pickup as long as your description of the car is accurate.
Surprise towing, processing or “environmental” feesTowing is $0 in Phoenix and the Valley. The amount on your accepted offer is the amount you are paid.
Paid later, mailed, or after the car is gonePayment is handed to you at pickup, in exchange for your signed title and keys.
“No title, no problem” promisesArizona’s no-title exception has strict conditions and only applies to licensed buyers. If it doesn’t fit your car, get a duplicate title ($4) instead.
“Pickup in one hour” guaranteesWe tell you the honest timing: typically a few days from offer to payment.

Comparing buyers? Ask each one: What exact amount do I receive at pickup? Is towing free, with no deductions? Will you put the quote in writing? How do you pay? What paperwork do you need from me?

What is it worth?

What affects your offer.

Your firm offer comes from your VIN and condition answers. For a rough idea first, here is the scrap-weight floor: vehicle weight times a scrap rate of $160–$180 per ton, the Arizona range used in published 2026 estimates. A car with sellable parts, or a truck, can be worth more than its weight.

Vehicle typeTypical weightScrap-weight estimate
Compact car2,500–3,300 lb$200–$297
Mid-size sedan3,200–3,800 lb$256–$342
Full-size sedan3,800–4,500 lb$304–$405
Crossover or small SUV3,300–4,000 lb$264–$360
Large SUV5,000–6,000 lb$400–$540
Pickup truck4,800–7,000 lb$384–$630

Estimates only, not a quote. These use the statewide Arizona range, not a Phoenix-specific rate, and published figures vary by source and buyer. What also moves your offer: whether the engine, transmission and catalytic converter are still on the car, whether it runs, the make and model, and your title or lien status. Leave the battery, wheels and catalytic converter attached so your offer stays locked.

Common questions

Phoenix seller questions

How much will you pay for my junk car in Phoenix?
It depends on your car’s weight, make and model, condition, and whether the engine, transmission and catalytic converter are still on it. As a rough scrap-weight floor, common vehicle types work out to about $200–$630 at $160–$180 per ton; trucks and cars with sellable parts can bring more. Enter your VIN and ZIP code above for one firm written number in about two minutes.
Is JunkStar legit? How do I know the offer is real?
You see one firm written offer before you commit, towing is $0, and payment is handed to you at pickup. The price holds at pickup when your description of the car is accurate. If any buyer won’t put the exact payout in writing or adds fees at pickup, walk away.
Can I keep a car that doesn’t run in my driveway in Phoenix?
Not where it can be seen. The City of Phoenix says inoperable vehicles must not be visible from beyond the property line. Inoperable means missing parts required to drive legally and safely on public streets, or unable to be driven under its own power. Neighbors can report it through myPHX311 or anonymously at 602-534-4444.
Does a car cover make it OK?
No. The city says car covers, tarps, bamboo, shades and similar materials are not acceptable screening for an inoperable vehicle.
What happens if my car is towed as abandoned in Phoenix?
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the owner is responsible for all tow and storage charges. Storage is capped at $25 per day under state law or $15 per day under city code, and the after-hours release rate is $75. If the vehicle isn’t claimed within 10 days of its release date, the tow company may file for an abandoned title.
Can I sell my junk car in Phoenix without a title?
Only in narrow cases. Under ARS 28-2098, a licensed buyer may take a vehicle without a title if it’s at least 12 model years old, worth $1,200 or less and has no lien. Otherwise get a duplicate title — ADOT lists the fee as $4. Our Arizona page explains the details.
What do I do with my plate and paperwork after the sale?
Take your plate off before the car leaves — in Arizona it stays with you. Sign the title at pickup, keep a bill of sale, and file your free Sold Notice on AZMVDNow.gov the same day.
Are there any towing or hookup fees in Phoenix?
Never. Towing is 100% included across Phoenix and the Valley. The dollar amount on your accepted offer is the exact amount on the check handed to you at pickup.
How fast can you pick up my car, and do I need to be there?
From offer to payment typically takes a few days. Same-day pickup is sometimes possible depending on your location and driver availability, so don’t plan around it. Plan to be there: the title paperwork and payment happen at pickup. If you can’t be, arrange it with the driver in advance.
