Who we are

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to prepare your offer, arrange pickup and complete the sale.

• Vehicle details you provide: year, make, model, trim, VIN, mileage, condition, damage, missing parts and photos.
• Location: the ZIP code and pickup address where the vehicle is located.
• Contact details: name, phone number and email address, if you choose to continue with an offer.
• Ownership and sale records: title details, lien information, bill of sale and the name on your photo ID, collected at pickup as required by law.
• The name the check should be made out to, so we can pay you by check at pickup.
• Communications: messages, emails and call notes when you contact us.
• Technical data collected automatically: IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, referring page and approximate location, through cookies and similar technologies.

How we use your information

• To prepare, send and honor your offer.
• To check service availability at your ZIP code and schedule pickup.
• To verify ownership, complete title transfer and meet record-keeping duties for vehicle purchases.
• To pay you and prevent fraud, theft and title washing.
• To answer questions and provide support.
• To improve our website, offers and services, including measuring how the site is used.
• To comply with law, respond to lawful requests and protect our rights.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as needed to provide our service:

• Tow operators who pick up your vehicle receive your name, pickup address, phone number and vehicle details.
• Service providers who host our website, send messages, process payments or provide analytics, under contracts that limit their use of your data.
• Vehicle recyclers, dismantlers or other parties that receive the vehicle after we purchase it receive vehicle and title information — not your contact details unless legally required.
• Government agencies, such as a DMV or law enforcement, when the law requires vehicle-sale reporting or a valid legal request is made.
• A buyer or successor if JunkStar is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.

Calls, texts and emails

We contact you about your offer and pickup using the details you provide. We will only send automated calls or text messages with your consent, and consent is never a condition of getting an offer. Reply STOP to any text to opt out, or ask us to stop calling at any time. Message and data rates may apply.

Marketing emails, if we send any, include an unsubscribe link.

Cookies and analytics

We use only the cookies and similar browser storage that are necessary for the site to work, such as remembering your offer details while you complete the form. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies; if that changes, we will update this policy first. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features may not work without them.

We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signals as a request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information where state law requires it.

How long we keep information

We keep offer requests that don’t lead to a sale for 12 months and then delete or de-identify them. Records of completed vehicle purchases — such as bills of sale, title records and seller identification — are kept for as long as state and federal law require, which can be several years.

How we protect information

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards — including encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and limited employee access — to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live — including California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other states with consumer privacy laws — you may have the right to:

• Know and access the personal information we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate information.
• Delete your information, subject to legal record-keeping exceptions for completed vehicle sales.
• Receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
• Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising and certain profiling.
• Appeal our decision on a privacy request.

How to exercise your rights

Email support@myjunkstar.com with the subject “Privacy request.” We will verify your identity by matching information you provide with our records, and respond within the time required by law (typically 45 days). You may use an authorized agent with written permission. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.

Notice for California residents

In the past 12 months we have collected the categories of personal information described in “Information we collect” — identifiers, commercial information (vehicle and sale records), internet activity and approximate geolocation — from you and your devices, for the business purposes in “How we use your information.” We disclose these categories to the recipients listed in “How we share information.” We do not sell or share personal information and do not knowingly collect information from consumers under 16.

Children’s privacy

Our services are intended for adults who can legally sell a vehicle. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services or the law change. We will post the new version here with an updated date and, for material changes, give notice on the website.
