Common questions

Pricing & offers

How much will a junkyard pay for my car?
Most junk cars bring a few hundred dollars. Scrap-only yards pay mainly by weight; buyers that also value parts often pay more. Get a firm offer to see your number.
Why do junkyards lower the price when the tow truck arrives?
Usually because the car doesn’t match the quote’s assumptions — or the quote was a bait number. JunkStar’s offer is written and based on your details. If the car matches, that’s what you’re paid; if not, you can decline.
How long is my offer valid?
Seven days from when it’s made. Scrap and parts prices move, so offers have an expiry date — your written offer shows it.

Common questions

Titles & paperwork

Can I sell a junk car without a title?
Often, depending on your state. Some states accept a registration and ID for older vehicles; others require a duplicate title. Tell us your state and we’ll explain.
Can I junk a car that still has a lien?
Yes, once the lien is cleared. Pay off the lender and get a lien release, or ask us how the payoff can be handled.
What do I need on pickup day?
The title (or your state’s accepted alternative), a photo ID that matches it, a lien release if applicable, and the keys if you have them.

Common questions

Pickup & payment

Is towing free?
Yes. Towing is included and nothing is deducted for it.
How and when do I get paid?
At pickup, before the car leaves, once the driver confirms it matches your description and the paperwork is signed.
What should I do after the sale?
Keep your copy of the paperwork, file a release of liability where your state requires it, cancel insurance, and return or transfer the plates if required.
